Spring weight restrictions apply while the roads are thawing after winter. Spring weights are dependent on region and temperatures and typically start once temperatures reach a certain degree. Lower weights will apply while the roads are thawing. This is to reduce wear and tear and the creation of dreaded potholes. Spring weights apply in Canadian Provinces as well as Northern American states.
Spring weight restrictions occur in Provinces from BC east to PEI and NS, excluding NFLD. USA spring weight restrictions will occur in northern states such as; AK, WA, OR, ID, MT, WY, ND, SD, NE, MN, IA, WI, MI, VT, CT, MA, ME, & NH.

GENERAL RULES OF O/S & O/W & LEGAL LIMITS
WIDTH:
8’6 or 102” or 2.60m –Items cannot be loaded side by side
*trailers are typically 8’6 wide
LENGTH: 75’0 or 23m varies by state – Items cannot be loaded end to end
*can be within legal length- but may be over rear overhang allowances (typical minimum is 4′)
HEIGHT: 13’6 or 4.11m (some western states allow 14’ ) – Items cannot be stacked on top of one another
WEIGHT: 80 000lbs or legal axle weights (varies by state, typical minimum is 34000lbs Michigan may only allow 32 000lbs on tandem) – Cannot haul multiple pieces. Allowable/permittable axle weights vary by state.
LOADS MUST BE REDUCED AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE BEFORE THEY ARE PERMITTED
Exceptions may apply Ex: equipment tires depending on state or hay bales in Western provinces.

This will vary dependent on jurisdiction. Ontario, for example, takes 3-5 business days where as most other provinces & USA States issue within the same business day. Cities and counties all vary and can take up to 5 days to issue dependent on the load & jurisdiction. If loads are larger it is encouraged to give more lead time when ordering permits as they will take more time for agent review. Surrounding holidays and generally busy times it is also encouraged to give additional lead time when ordering permits.
This will vary state by state as regulations are upgraded. Please review permit and conditions for ruling.
Permit & permit conditions will state your travel allowances which will be based on size, sometimes weight, and varies by state/province.
